Após termos visto um show destruidor na Embaixada do Rock (São Leopoldo) em 2016, entramos em contato com os uruguaios da Horror on Black Hills, que foram bem atenciosos em nos conceder esta entrevista. Confiram!

OAT: Gostaríamos de saber como foi o ano de 2016 para vocês e o que projetam para 2017, que está recém começando.
HOBH: 2016 foi um grande ano para nós. Nós o dedicamos a gravar novo material para o próximo álbum e tocamos apenas algumas vezes no Uruguai e uma vez no Brasil. Que foi uma grande experiência, uma vez que nunca tínhamos ido para o Brasil antes. Um dos shows em nosso país foi em Paysandú, algo que realmente gostei porque poderíamos mostrar nossa música em outro lugar que não apenas na capital do país.
Nosso primeiro passo e principal objetivo é lançar nosso segundo álbum, algo que está acontecendo esperançosamente no primeiro semestre do ano. Então nós queremos mostrar que o material novo em alguns shows ao vivo.
OAT: De onde vem a inspiração para suas letras e melodias?
HOBH: A maior parte da inspiração vem da opressão dos homens à natureza e da vontade de retribuição, misantropia, religião e comportamento humano geral.
OAT: Vimos o show que fizeram na Embaixada do Rock 16/10/2016 e foi muito brutal, excelente. Como foi para a Horror on Black Hills tocar em São Leopoldo? A banda tem planos de retornar?
HOBH: Tocar em São Leopoldo foi uma ótima experiência. Poderíamos dizer que show foi o melhor show que tivemos até agora. Agradecemos aos nossos amigos que tocam na Horror Chamber e fizeram esse convite para nós, que nos levou para tocar lá e nos acolheu nos fazendo sentir como se estivesse em casa.
Estamos fazendo planos para voltar a São Leopoldo este ano para apresentar o segundo álbum e também para outras cidades para ver mais da cena do metal extremo brasileiro.
OAT: Qual o significado do nome Horror on Black Hills e de onde surgiu essa ideia?
HOBH: "Black Hills" é um lugar conceitual criado pela banda onde a temática das letras e a inspiração vem. Com isso em mente, adicionamos "Horror" ao nome, já que esse conceito é uma grande parte de nossas letras e músicas.
OAT: Vimos uma prévia da destruição que será o próximo trabalho da Horror on Black Hills. Qual a previsão de lançamento deste artefato?
HOBH: Desde o lançamento do nosso álbum anterior, só fizemos upload de uma música cover, embora estivéssemos trabalhando duro para criar o novo material. O teaser é apenas uma parte de um single que será lançado em breve como uma prévia do novo álbum e queríamos compartilhá-lo com as pessoas que gostam da banda para manter o interesse e a expectativa para esse momento.
OAT: Gostaria de saber um pouco mais sobre como é a cena de metal extremo uruguaia. Podem citar algumas bandas como referência?
HOBH: Infelizmente não temos tantas bandas de metal extremo tocando aqui como gostariamos, então a cena uruguaia de metal extremo não é muito grande. Como referência podemos citar bandas como "Ecivresotua", "Espectros", "Ritual de Nacimiento", "Libertad o Muerte", "Soulless Faith" ou "Apneuma" entre outras.
OAT: Pude notar referências à guerra em seu teaser. Haverá relações com esse tema nas músicas do próximo trabalho? Podem nos falar um pouco sobre isso?
HOBH: Não haverá letras explícitas sobre a própria guerra, mas a essência da guerra como parte de um comportamento humano contra a natureza e a própria humanidade.
OAT: Ainda falando sobre o assunto das guerras, temos visto inúmeros atentados de extremistas religiosos islâmicos ao redor do mundo. O que a banda pensa sobre este assunto?
HOBH: O terrorismo está nos olhos do espectador. A mídia controla a informação que recebemos e a maneira como pensamos sobre partes específicas da sociedade, para eles algum terrorismo é mainstream e alguns outros não é assim que está escondido no subsolo, deixando-nos ver a dualidade de critérios. O terrorismo é terrorismo.
OAT: A Horror on Black Hills se formou em 2012. Quais foram os momentos mais significativos para a trajetória da banda durante estes anos?
HOBH: Alcançar o som que queríamos para a banda, chegar à formação que temos hoje em dia e manter a confiança da Extreme Zone Records em nós é algo que estamos muito contentes e reflete um bom momento para a banda nos últimos meses, então poderíamos dizer que esse momento é ótimo e tentamos nos concentrar mais nisso. Também tocar em outros países como Argentina e Brasil deixou boas lembranças para nós.
OAT: Como foi para vocês abrir o show dos suecos do Dark Tranquility em 2014?
HOBH: Foi uma ótima experiência. Foi a primeira vez que tocamos com uma banda de um país estrangeiro e, apesar de não compartilharmos muitas similaridades musicais, Dark Tranquility é uma banda muito conhecida na cena internacional do metal extremo.
OAT: O som de vocês é Blackened Death metal, brutal e bem trabalhado. Vocês tem uma ou mais bandas que os influenciam diretamente nas composições da banda?
HOBH: Temos uma grande bagagem musical, mas as duas bandas mais influentes para nós são "Behemoth" e "Agalloch".

OAT: We would like to know how 2016 was for you and what you are planning for 2017, which is just beginning.
2016 was a great year for us. We dedicated it to record new material for the upcoming album and played just a couple of times in Uruguay and once in Brazil. That was a great experience since we had never been to Brazil before. One of the shows in our country was in Paysandú, something we really enjoyed because we could show our music somewhere else than just in the capital of the country.
Our first step and main objective is releasing our second album, something that is hopefully happening in the first half of the year. Then we want to show that new material playing some live shows.
OAT: Where does the inspiration for your lyrics and melodies come from?
Most of the inspiration comes from oppression of men to nature and the will of retribution, misanthropy, religion and general human behavior.
OAT: We saw the show they did at the Embaixada do Rock 10/16/2016 and it was very brutal, excellent. How did for Horror on the Black Hills to play in São Leopoldo? Does the band have plans to return?
Playing in São Leopoldo was a great experience. We could say that show was the best show we have had so far. We thank our friends who play in Horror Chamber and made that invitation for us which lead is to play there and welcomed us making us feel as being home.
We are making plans to go back to São Leopoldo this year to present the second album and also going to some other cities to see more of the brazilian extreme metal scene.
OAT: What is the meaning of the name Horror on Black Hills and where did this idea come from?
"Black Hills" is a conceptual place created by the band where the thematic of the lyrics and the inspiration comes from. With that in mind we added "Horror" to the name since that concept is a great part of our lyrics and music.
OAT: We saw a preview of the destruction that will be the next work of Horror on Black Hills. What is the forecast of launching this artifact?
Since the release of our previous album we had only uploaded a cover song even though we are working hard to create the new material. The teaser is only a part of a single that will be release soon as a preview of that new album and we wanted to share it with the people who like the band to keep the interest and expectation for that moment.
OAT: I would like to know a bit more about how is the Uruguayan extreme metal scene. Can you name some bands as a reference?
Unfortunately we don't have as many extreme metal bands playing here as we wish, so the Uruguayan extreme metal scene is not too big. As a reference we could name bands like "Ecivresotua", "Espectros", "Ritual de Nacimiento", "Libertad o Muerte", "Soulless Faith" or "Apneuma" among others.
OAT: I could see references to the war in your teaser. Will there be relation with this theme in the songs of the next work? Can you tell us a bit about this?
There will be no explicit lyrics about war itself but the essence of war as part of a human behavior against nature and mankind itself.
OAT: Still talking about the subject of the wars, we have seen numerous attacks of Islamic religious extremists around the world. What does the band think about this?
Terrorism is in the eye of the beholder. Media controls the information we get and the way we think about specific parts of the society, for them some terrorism is mainstream and some other is not so it is hidden underground, letting us see the duality of criteria. Terrorism is terrorism.
OAT: Horror on Black Hills born in 2012. What were the most significant moments in the band's career over the years?
Achieving the sound we wanted for the band, getting to the formation we have nowadays and keeping the trust of Extreme Zone Records in us is something we are really glad of and reflects a good moment for the band in the last months, so we could say that this moment is a great one and we try to focus more on that. Also playing in other countries like Argentina and Brazil left good memories for us.
OAT: How was for you open the show of Swedish Dark Tranquility in 2014?
It was a great experience. It was the first time we played with a band from a foreign country and, even though we do not share many musical similarities, Dark Tranquility is very well known band in the international extreme metal scene.
OAT: Your sound is Blackened Death metal, brutal and well crafted. Do you have one or more bands that influence you directly in the band's compositions?
We have a wide musical baggage but the two more influential bands for us are "Behemoth" and "Agalloch".
